I don’t know about you, but I miss going to cafes. I miss getting a latte on Sunday mornings, and meeting up with friends for a glass of wine in the evening. A lot of North Americans are surprised to find out that cafes in the UK & Europe serve wine in the evenings, although it’s starting to become more common there as well. Comfy chairs, quiet music, it’s a nice alternative if a noisy bar or crowded pub is not really your cup of tea. We’ve all had to settle for having a glass at home and chatting with our friends via video call for a while now, and we’re not sure when we’ll be able to meet up in person again. With that in mind, here are my top tips for getting the best possible price when purchasing wine online.
Use a Laithwaite’s Voucher Code
If you are in the UK, Laithwaites is hands down your best value for purchasing wine online, and they have voucher codes that can save you a bundle. They are a relative newcomer to the online wine space but have already achieved a loyal following and rave reviews. It’s not hard to see why, both their prices and selection are excellent. If you browse their website they also have a Wine Knowledge Hub that’s definitely worth a read. The main thing really though is the prices, which are already low but can be improved even more by using a discount code as I mentioned. And always take a look through their featured wines, there are usually some brilliant deals to be had there.
Buy by the Case
Another good tip to save money is to buy in bulk and buy by the case. If there is a type of wine that your particularly enjoy why not get a whole case of it? You don’t have to drink nothing but pinot grigio for several months, but by purchasing it in bulk you will save money in the long term. You could also use my personal strategy of splitting the cost with some friends and each taking a few bottles. Then you still get the savings, and you get to say hello in person from 6 feet away and with a mask on. I’ll take any social interaction I can get these days!
Buy Laithwaite’s Sampler Packs
Laithwaites has some excellent sampler packs that are also very cost-effective. You can choose all reds, all whites, all roses, all bubbles, or a mix of a few. You also have the option to sort by price, with the lowest being less than £7.99 a bottle! My personal favourite is the Sale Showcase Mix, you get a nice mix of reds and whites from various countries. I wound up trying several bottles that I never would have otherwise, and some have become new favourites. You get 12 bottles of 6 different kinds of wine (so 2 bottles each), and it’s currently on sale for just £83 and change. If you use a voucher code as well, it’s an incredible deal.
Get a Subscription from Laithwaite’s
If you browse the ‘Wine Clubs’ section of Laithwaites.co.uk there are several options for subscription plans. As the banner on the landing page proudly proclaims, you will save over £100 on your first case of wine, and after that you get a 10% discount on the case pricing, which is already a significant savings. If you don’t drink a lot of wine, you can adjust how often you’d like your delivery. They start you off at a case every 12 weeks, but you can request a longer term if you like. When setting up your subscription you will be required to fill out your wine preferences so if there is anything that you are not a fan of you can make sure they don’t send it to you. I haven’t used the subscription service myself, so I’m not sure if you can apply a voucher to it or not.
Cheers, and here’s to a better year ahead!
I am hopeful that we’ll be able to go round to our friends homes again soon. However, even once it’s safe to go outside again getting a good deal never goes out of style. Remember to use a discount code at Laithwaite’s, and enjoy these cozy nights in!
